Instructor Certification Policy

Last updated: March 09, 2026

The Experts platform provides a structured instructor certification program designed to establish credibility, protect learners, and highlight verified expertise across different professional fields.

The certification system uses a gated multi-level structure that allows instructors to progressively verify their identity, professional expertise, and academic qualifications.

Certification levels influence instructor visibility, trust signals presented to learners, and eligibility for certain platform features.

1. Certification Levels

The platform currently recognizes three instructor certification levels.

1.1 Unverified Instructor

Instructors who have not yet applied for certification are considered Unverified. This is the default status for newly created instructor accounts.

Unverified instructors may:

  • Create and publish educational content
  • Build their instructor profile
  • Define expertise areas and course topics
  • Apply for certification once eligibility requirements are met

Unverified instructors do not receive a certification badge.

1.2 Verified Instructor

Verified Instructor status confirms that an instructor has submitted evidence of professional identity, relevant work experience, and expertise within their field.

Applications for Verified status may require documentation such as professional profiles, portfolios, employment history, or other supporting materials demonstrating subject matter expertise.

Approved instructors receive a Verified [Field] badge displayed on their instructor profile.

  • Display a verified credibility badge
  • Gain increased trust visibility for learners
  • Become eligible to apply for Academic certification

Verified instructors may:

1.3 Academic Instructor

Academic Instructor status is granted to instructors who provide verified academic credentials or institutional qualifications in their subject area.

Documentation may include academic degrees, professional licenses, institutional affiliations, or other recognized credentials.

Approved instructors receive an Academic [Field] badge displayed on their profile.

Academic Instructor certification represents the highest level of instructor verification on the platform.

2. Certificate Issuance Eligibility

Only instructors who hold Academic Instructor certification are permitted to issue course completion certificates that represent professional or academic credentials.

This rule exists to protect the credibility of certifications issued through the platform and to prevent misleading representations of professional or academic qualifications.

Courses created by instructors without Academic certification may still provide educational value but may only issue a general platform completion record rather than an instructor-issued professional certificate.

3. Certification Review Process

Certification applications are reviewed by the platform moderation team. Reviewers evaluate several factors including:

  • Clarity and consistency of the instructor's professional profile
  • Credibility of submitted documentation
  • Evidence of expertise within the declared field
  • Alignment between instructor profile and course subject matter

The platform may request additional documentation before granting certification status.

4. Certification Status and Progression

Certification follows a sequential progression. Instructors must first obtain Verified status before applying for Academic certification.

The progression order is:

  • Unverified Instructor
  • Verified Instructor
  • Academic Instructor

Certification levels may influence platform visibility, institutional partnerships, and eligibility for advanced educational programs.

5. Certification Revocation

The platform reserves the right to revoke or downgrade certification status if an instructor provides misleading documentation, violates platform policies, or misrepresents their qualifications.

6. Policy Updates

The platform may update the instructor certification framework in order to maintain quality standards, support institutional partnerships, and improve learner trust across the platform.
